Voting Question: Cat Flea problem won’t go away.?
I have a long haired Maine Coon. About 3 weeks ago, I discovered that he had fleas. In the past 3 weeks, we have tried everything to get rid of them. He has been shaved, 3 flea baths, 1 treatment of Frontline Plus, and we have flea-bombed the garage (where he sleeps). We have been vacuuming like crazy people (floors, couches and other soft surfaces), sweeping/mopping hardwood floors, spraying the carpets, couches and curtains with flea/larvae/egg chemicals, and have washed ALL of our laundry and bedding.
What can we do? The problem just won’t go away. It’s not quite an infestation (because we aren’t being bitten and we haven’t found any on anything other than the now bald cat), but we want this to end before it can get out of control.
Does anyone have ANY advice?
I forgot to add that when we vacuum, we have a flea collar in the bag, and we have removed anything new to his environment that could have possibly brought fleas in (i.e. a new cat tree).
We have no other animals, and my cat stays indoors. I will try the detergent test tonight, but I’m not expecting much. As I said, we are only seeing fleas on the cat (and few at that). I haven’t seen ANY on the the carpet/furniture. I’m hoping that we have broken the life cycle, and are just waiting for the remaining eggs/larvae to mature and die.
